First, Thanks for the help so far. with IEradicator, ie 5.1 no longer thinks 5.5 is still there.

It does say I'm upgrading from a version that had it's uninstall disabled, and that this version won't have uninstall either.

I did not disable any uninstall, and it shouldn't detect any old version, but this is only anoying not disabling. We'll let the programmer live for now...but I wonder if he can type with the thumbscrews on...

When I get to the part where it needs to download the rest of itself, it says the download location information is damaged, and that I should clear my browser's cache and restart install.

What the @#$% is going on now? Is Opera interfering with ie?

By the way, the folder MSIE50 keeps coming back no mater how many times I delete it - even with IE not installed!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHH!!!!!!!

It's evident then that you've a bad/incomplete copy of the 5.1 files. Some of the early ones were like that and there is no solution except to try a different source. Where did you get your files from? Is there some valid reason you don't go with IE 5.50 SP2?

The full path to folder MSIE50 is?

I got 5.1 from oldapps.com . I'll try somewhere else. Ie 5.5 SP2 was too slow. I'm using a 486DX2-50. 5.5 would probably work fine on the DX4-100, but it has a slight hardware problem.

IE5 and up did not have an uninstaller.

Also, you've probably broken your system. I experimented with IEradicator, and it gave me the speed of 95, with the backing of 98 - and I was able to run it on my laptop witch is fairly modern.

However, a lot of file operations and programs actually went slower in that system than a more modern OS like XP or 2000. Perhaps you should just look into upgrading, and keep the old OSes for nostalgia.

I do the same with a 1993 Macintosh...

Also, if you want to tweak an OS as much as that, you might either want to do a bit more learning, or try Linux as well.
