File name is too long and it wont let me rename. Can somebody give me directions on how to try it in DOS? The file name, according to properties under the general tab, is CONHAR~1.LNK and it is on my desktop, or at least a shortcut is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Scott,
The CONHAR~1.LNK is as you stated a shortcut to the executable program.
Right click on the shortcut, select Properties.
Click on the Shortcut Tab at the top.
You will see Target:
What is the path shown next to it?
For example:
When I right click on a Shortcut to Regcleaner under the General Tab it shows,MS-DOS name: REGCLE~1.LNK
Under the Shortcut Tab:
Target: "C:\Program Files\RegCleaner\RegCleanr.exe"
Post Back.

Because you asked how to delete that file in DOS I'll tell you. BUT first do exactly what mesich told you because it is most important to find out what that shortcut is pointing to before you go deleting anything.
This is how:
Shut down and restart in DOS (from Start menu).
This will take you to c:\windows (just like in Windows Explorer).
Type cd desktop then hit Return.
You will now be in c:\windows\desktop (you can type dir & Return to see your desktop stuff if you so wish).
You then type del conhar~1.lnk and provided the file is not hidden or read-only it should be gone for good (no recycle bin in DOS).
It's just possible that the symbol ~ will not appear by hitting the usual key in DOS, so you may have to find where it's moved to on the keyboard.
Type exit to restart Windows.
But post back first!

Target says my computer. I still have my original my computer shortcut as well. The target is greyd out so I cant change it. When I tried to delete in DOS it said too many parameters. Any ideas?
