My status bar keeps hiding itself. I can go in view -> status bar to restore it, but every time i reboot my system, the IE status bar doesn't show when i first start it. I looked in the registry, and it is set to 1, so it should work, unless there is more than one entry for it? This is a minor annoyance, but i wish i could fix it permanently, any ideas? This occurs on my Win 95b system.

Do you mean it does not have the 3D effect or it retracts under the webpage or task bar?

I mean it's not there. The status bar at the bottom of IE doesn't show up. I have to turn it on manually every time i reboot. But after i turn it on once at the beginning of an internet session, it then stays on. Another one of these "Microsoft mysteries"!

Start, Run, type in regedit, hit OK.
Expand the tree down to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Click on Main to show info in the right hand pane.
Scroll down in the right hand pane to
Show_StatusBar
The data to the right of it should say "yes"

If it does not then right click on Show_StatusBar and select Modify, enter the word yes for the Data Value (without the quotes) and click OK and exit regedit.

The change should take effect immediately but if it does not then restart your machine and see if it fixed it.

If the Show_StatusBar is not even present then right click anywhere in the right hand pane and select New, Key and add
Show_StatusBar (with the underscore and capital letters as shown, and then in the value data add yes. Hit OK or whatever it shows to complete.

Normaly I would suggest backing up the registry before making any modifications (and perhaps you should) but there is little possibility to make a mistake in adding a key. If done incorrectly it can be deleted just as easily.

Sorry but I neglected part of the key. Here is the correct path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
