Trying to help out a friend who is getting on startup the following error:
Symtray.exe at 018F:00404f113 I searched Microsoft support cannot seem to find anything. Any Help would be appreciated. He is running win98se 60gb on Network system/cable, has checked for virus, scan disk, and SFC with no results. Possible corrupt driver?

I think you mean systray.exe?
Systray.exe is a program.
You could try, getting hold of another copy of this program by extracting it from the win98 cd-rom.
Or maybe a program, recently installed, can't use this version of systray.exe. Try removing all programs that use the system tray, and see if systray now works, if it does, then a program can't use systray properly. Add the programs back, one at a time, and see where it goes wrong. My guess, there has been a system file update, and either an old program or an incompatible program is trying to use systray

Have him go to start/run type msconfig and look for symtray in the startup tab. Unselect it if it's there. Don't unselect 'systray' though.

if it is SYMTRAY, i would suspect the place to look would be 'Symantec' ('Nortons')

Chappie; You are right on the money. It was a Symtray exe. which of course is Norton, and I found out he did and uninstall awhile back, and obviously left some residue. I directed him to symantec for the manual uninstall. I should have been awake this morning when I was reading SYMtray. Not swift on my part. Thanks Dave, Jack for your valued Input also. Hey I may hear back that he did mean systray and then I will go into that direction. I like the thought on the msconfig and also the fact yes it did affect the system tray. So thanks to you all got some direction to go on now.
