Why in the world would you rename win.com to aek.com? No wonder Windows can't find win.com.

why don't you just put a password in the BIOS. then the users can't get in without knowing the password.

The way you're trying to safeguard your computer won't work by renaming the file.

Hi Vasilis,

Try out these steps if the scanreg does not help.

Create a new Win.com file by extracting the Win.cnf file from your Windows disks or CD-ROM to the Windows folder, and then renaming it to Win.com. To do so, follow these steps:

Extract the Win.cnf file from your Windows disks or CD-ROM to the Windows folder.

The Win.cnf file is in the following locations:

Disk 3 of the original Windows 95 disks

Win95_03.cab of the original Windows 95 CD-ROM
Win98_28.cab of the original Windows 98 CD-ROM
Win98_25.cab of the original Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM

3. Rename the Win.cnf file in the Windows folder to Win.com. To do so, type the following line, and then press ENTER:

ren c:\windows\win.cnf c:\windows\win.com

4. Restart your computer.

After it issued the printout, it enters DOS mode.If you are really serious about naming WIN.COM to AEK.COM, then when you get the printout'cannot find Win.com' just type-in

AEK

(You don't even need the 'com'
It will then load AEK.COM just as if it was WIN.COM.
