My problem started after installing the game Alice from EA software. The game suddenly started freezing on me. EA tech support suggested updating my video drive xpert 128 which I did. That did not fix the problem. Then my computer would only start up in safe mode. By doing the step-by-step confirmation sequence I found that windows would load if the ndis.vdx file was not allowed to load. Temporarily I was able to fix it by restoring the modem driver from my windows 98 restore disk, but it continues to occur intermittently. Has the ndis.vdx file been corrupted. I also had to reinstall the older video driver because my graphics would not work properly. Why is this happening and what is the solution?

Precisely the file has been corrupted and if that file belongs to ur modem then update ur drivers for ur modem from the internet not ur restore disk. Then update ur video drivers from then to the latest version.

Before downloading anything the thing to do is go to Programs>Accessories>system tools>System information and click the tools tab. From the drop down menu pick File Checker. When you run it, it will check all your files to see if they are corrupt. You need your Windows 98 CD if it finds any.

Go into the device manager by going...
My computer>control panel>system>
Now click on the divice manager tab.
Check for a yellow marker by any of the devices. If there is a hardware conflict, the device manager will tell you.
