Could someone please advise me on how to resolve my situation? I have a computer with an Abit be6 motherboard. It contains a ultra66 ide controller port for the new hard drive I just got. I tried to xcopy32 all the files and images from my SCSI hard drive on to it and try to run it. The system won't load up unless I use safe mode. So I understand the problem maybe the irq's and devices, but if the hard drive in SCSI works and I transfer it to the new ultra66 harddrive running on a controller that accepts 66 transfer speeds, I don't know why it won't run? And yet, it will run in safe mode. Can someone offer solutions and techniques to attack this problem? I have downloaded all the latest files. So any info would be appreciated.

Did you use F-DISK or some third party utility to format the new hard disk??? I recently purchased an IDE controller card to expand the number of potential IDE ports available on my computer, and it explicitely required F-DISKING, warning that third party utilities would cause the new disk not to be operable or readable.

As far as why it would go into safe mode...well, my logic about it is...safemode is Windows operating without almost any drivers. So perhaps this has to do with one or more drivers???? You might want to try the step by step bootup procedure to tell which if any driver is causing the problem or hangup. Consult your Win 98 manual for instructions on how to do this.

I've never xcopied, but I've read you can have problems if you don't do it in msdos when in windows.
Also was there a change of Directory letter.
Your System.ini and Registry maybe looking in the wrong place.

I would fdisk and format the new drive, then use Norton's Ghost program to transfer everything over to the new drive. I'm pretty sure they have a free download online at Norton's site.
