When on the internet today I started getting a load of popups and the windows asking me if I would like to install some kind of software. Finally I got all of them closed and the software installs quit after selecting no several times. Then my firewall was telling me that something called "eche" was trying to connect to the internet and I chose no several times. Now I located the file in c:\windows\application data\eche.exe. When I run system configuration utility and look at startup I see something called "uebr" and to the right it shows the the same path as above. When I ctrl-alt-delete it shows eche to be running. Is this a virus or spyware? When I try to delete it says this file is being used by windows and wont let me. AdAware and AVG don't alert me that it is a problem. I have the current definitions for both. Thanks for any help.

Spyware is a problem I had aswell, a friend of mine told me to download Spyware Search & Destroy, (Google Search gets you there the fastest) Also if you have P2P programs like Kazza, Napster or WinMX I suggest you get rid of them. nastly litte b****rs they are!

sounds like it could be a dialler, try spybot to find it.make sure that your isp number hasent changed if you are on dial up.at the moment your firewall sounds like it is stopping it calling home but you need to sort this out asap.

three things to use, spybot, spywareblaster, and yahoo's toolbar with pop-up blocker plus anti-spyware. use spybot to immunize and check, spywareblaster to prevent from installing in the first place, and yahoo's toolbar checks for things spybot can't.
