After trying a number of free anti-ware systems, I purchased a copy of Giant Anti-Spyware and have had great results. As I understand it, Giant has been purchased by Microsoft and the software is now free from MS.

PopMon recommends MS Antispyware. Unfortunately this will only run on Windows 2000 and XP. The OP states the OS as Windows98. It should also be noted that this program is still in Beta.
