Comment:

Using NEC SuperScript 870, very often I receive an illeagal operation error: "Spool32.exe caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL.32.DLL at 0177:bff7b997" I have changed the printer's spool settings to RAW and EMF formats, but still receive the same error. The only way this helps is when I "print directly to printer", but that is not what I would like to stay with. Please advise if there is a fix for this

Check with your printer manufacturer if there is a memory upgrade for your printer.

If not then you're going to have this problem, there's not enough memory on the printer's buffer to process what you're printing.

Could also be a faulty memory chip on the printer

Hope this helps

Thanks for the advise! I think the memory upgrade might do it. We have about 5 of these printers and they all behave in the same way, so it is hard to figure that they all have bad memory chips. I have researched NEC's web site and they have absolutely no info on such problems. Again, thanks for your reply.

This error can also be software related. Some programs have known bugs or issues with certian printers that are not supported.

To be sure, try this test.

Open notepad and type something. Now print out what you typed in windows notepad. Do you get the error? If so it is probably hardware related, or possible driver related.

If you do not get the error printing from the windows notepad but get the error when printing within a certain program such as Print Shop or Adobe, then I would think that the program is causing the problem or that the program does not properly support your printer. Contact the manufacturer of the program and they may have a fix for you.

I too have an NEC SuperScript870 with 16MB of memory (Windows 98 SE)and get the spool32.exe error. The error occurs only intermitantly while printing from Excel 2000. Does anyone have a solution. I checked the Microsoft Knowledge Base and found nothing.
