What are you trying to speed up? Your dial up connection or your computer?

Was the message on here? If so can you find the message number so that we can track it down and check it out. If it was from elsewhere can you pinpoint it somehow (go to the page and paste the full address onto here).

Hi

This sort of depends where you are in relation to the isp. Faster speed in some circumstance is nice, but generally there is a cost - "quality" {higher packet loss). In my situation - with poor phone lines, I actually surfed faster with one Isp by turning the speed down. When I changed ISP, they had better (faster) more consistent speed.

Depending on your location, {like is the isp local or some distance), even the type of modem you are using will make a difference.

If I am thinking of the same thread then it was not referring to a download but an "init string" that you can use to tell your modem how to work.
http://www.modemhelp.org/inits/

First you need to identify your modem, locate the string you need and then read the information of where to install the string from the information found on that same page.
