Double click the modem indicator in the systray and it will give you the connection speed.

Dinkydao, in order to better help you the board needs you to continue in your other threads as it gets too confusing and more importantly anyone else wanting the same info needs to see it all in one thread too.

The best way to do it is by using Computing.net's finest feature called
"My Computing.net" found in the left hand column.
It will automatically add any and all threads initiated by you along with any others that you choose to add there.

I have added one of your previous threads to mine to better help you.

With your modem disconnected from the net (not in use that is)
Go to Start, Run and type in (or copy and paste):
C:\Program Files\Accessories\HyperTerminal\hypertrm.exe

Or navigate to it using Windows Explorer.

Name the session "test" and click OK.
In the next box type in 5555555 for the phone number and click Cancel.

In the Hyperterminal window type in "ATI3" without the quotes and hit Enter.
(That is A-T-I (as in eye not a one)-3)

After you get your Modem info exit from Hyperterminal and do not save the session.

Then go back to modem.org to locate the init string for your modem.

They also explain where to place the string and how to do it there.

I hate to burst your bubble Dinkydao, but 115,000 is the speed from the CPU to the modem. The 46,666 is the actual line speed. I hope you don't bother to check this string anymore, so you can stay happy. :-)

Ted,
In the original posts it was realized that it is not possible to get more than 56k out of a dial up modem but if changing a setting brings about better dial up performance then it is worth it no matter what the numbers are saying.

I would suggest that the added init string allows the modem to perform at it peak levels whereas this same modem may not have been running at it's best possible.
