speaker on tsk bar is gone & I need it. Please help

Comment:
my speaker dissapeared from the task bar. when I go to multimedia to check 'show volume control on task bar' it is greyed out. There are no conflicts in the device manager, and everything else seems to work except the sound. I have an intergrated system so I can't pull the sound card as it is not a card but a part of the mother board. Also there is no driver to speak of. When I go to system config utility I find that system tray is checked. I can't think of where else to look. Any suggestions?
In Multimedia do you have any more device's under Preferred device, ifso try one

You may also want to check that the Volume control has not been uninstalled. If so reinstall it. I would also concidering removing it and reinstalling it if it is indeed allready installed.

Rabbit,
I agree with Ender. Reinstall the volume control from the CD. Be careful that you do not uninstall something else when you do.

thanks, bob. I tried that and it is a no-go. Ender, should volume control be under the install/uninstall or is it elsewhere.

I am not sure how to reinstall the volume control. I don't see it under install/uninstall so I am assuming you are talking about windows setup / multimedia. Is this correct?

I'm closer than I was, but I'm gonna start again. I need to be able to use my advanced properties in multimedia/audio. They are greyed out. Any ideas?

The probable cause for the disappearing speaker is a new version of winmm.dll which is not compatible with older sound card drivers. Install an earlier version which can be found on the Win95 CDROM or download from solo.abac.com/dllarchive/index.html
