Hi all. I know this is the same question I asked before but I thought I would ask again with a little more info so it will catch someones eye that can hopefuly help me with this mind boggler :|.
I have a Sound Blaster Live! Soundcard that I bought of the web a couple of weeks ago. It came without a driver and Ive been trying my hardest to find a "good" driver that would actually work. I tried creativelabs to find it and when I installed it, it asked me where a couple of files were, then it deactiveated my USB mouse for some odd reason and I had to find the driver to that too. Now everything seems to be working fine after this.. but when I reboot, the pc hangs.. It doesnt get passed the last stage till you see your desktop. It just sits there... I've tried diffrent drivers all over the web too. From ones that I found on driver detective to some from another site that I cant remember the name of.. Nothing is working.. Is it somthing in the system files thats causeing this? Would my old sound card be causeing this problem? Or what?
Any help would be great.
Thanks

I just got one off the web (ebay) too. And like yours, no drivers. But there are two availible drivers for that. I had to use both. One driver is about 5.6mbs big and the other is around 23mbs big. The 23mb one is ONLY for WinXP. The other driver is for the older operating systems. So maybe you have the wrong one installed. I can't even remember where I got mine now. I just did a search under Google. I know driver.com did not have the right one.

It makes mention lower down of the "Live!Ware 3.0" file/driver being necessary:

http://www.nuws.net/hardware/reviews/example_review/index.shtmlThe CT4830 has plastic sockets as opposed to the gold plated, metal ones found on their Sound Blaster Live 1024 retail cousins. It also lacks the digital connection to CD-ROM drives.

The card installed easily into our test machine. Simply slot the card into a free PCI slot, ignore Windows auto detection, and launch the installer from the supplied CD-ROM.
The manual, which is on the CD-ROM is concise, gives step-by-step guides and a solid grounding in the cards capabilities.
Unfortunately, the software isn't current and only accommodates Windows9x/NT4. All updates combined amount to an enormous 60Mb or more (35Mb for Liveware), which is a wee bit daunting for users of analogue modems. This takes about five hours to download.
It is worth noting that the Creatives EMU10K1 sound chip incorporates entirely different technology from that used by previous models. Most notably, making it non-Sound Blaster compatible. Software emulation is installed as part of the drivers though thankfully, rarely required.And from;
http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/sblive/live_ct4830.shtmlWhat the heck - may as well fire the puppy up. I cracked open the case and inserted the CT4830 in my upgraded server and went on to install my Value's original Live!Ware/EAX 1.0 drivers. To my absolute horror, the Live! Value's drivers would not install on the CT4830 card! Out of sheer panic, I tried over and over again, in different ways - not once could I get this card to acept drivers nor play any sounds. I skipped off to the sblive.com website and searched for any references or drivers for the CT4830. None. Zilch.
Before my anxiety attack could take root, I checked-out the Internet newsgroups and stumbled upon 'creative.products.sound_blaster.live'. There were over 4500 messages, but after a few minutes, it became quite apparent that I wasn't the only one with this CT4830 and missing drivers.
It seems as though several retailers are purchasing bulk-packs of this European and Asian market-only OEM card and selling them off without drivers to poor sods like me. A message from a Creative Labs support technician on the newsgroup stated that this is frowned upon by Creative and that they will not provide end-users with drivers for the CT4830 on their site - ever. Unlucky buyers should contact their retailer and demand drivers, or return the product under the guise that it is incomplete.
----------------------
PrideUnsatisfied with this issue and too proud to return this 'enhanced' Live! Card, I kept it and tried my utmost best to get the card to work. I read on the newsgroup that installing the unreleased Live!Ware 3.0 driver set on the CT4830 will work, but at the time the public download of Live!Ware 3.0 wasn't out.
I called Creative and was placed on hold for an eternity before I hung up. A support e-mail to Creative about the CT4830 drivers was never replied to or returned. After over 3 hours of frustration and dozens of reboots, I managed to get the drivers to load and sound to work on the CT4830.
----------------------
The 4830 Driver TrickThe trick is to erase all traces of the driver and device manager parts without a reboot. Then I re-downloaded and launched Live!Ware 2.0. Before it had time to cancel the driver install (as it can't find a compatible card) and delete its temp files (because LW2 INF doesn't have support for the CT4830), I went to C:\Windows\Temp and copied the temp install dir to another location on my hard disk (You should try this on a P3-550 with ATA-66 hard drives and controllers - seconds after launching the installer, the temp file gets deleted)!
Inside this folder was a Win98 directory with the *.inf and *.vxd driver parts. I then installed the driver by pointing to this *.inf file, and pointed it to a Mapped Network drive of my gaming PC (with Live!Ware 2.1) when it asked for missing pieces. Directing the install wizard to files in my C:\Windows\System across my home network did the trick.
A reboot later, and the sound worked fine! None of the Creative Miscellaneous Devices came up in the Device Manager, but the card did work in the OS and in Games without a crash. This tied me over for some time, but I eventually fixed the problem for good - the public download of Live!Ware 3.0 came out about three weeks later and installed without a hitch. Talk about 'unified drivers'.
----------------------
The Yellow JackNow, as to the fifth and yellow connector on the back-plane of the CT4830, it is labelled as 'Digital Out'. Upon closer inspection, it's a 4-post jack, versus the standard 2-post of stereo mini-headphone jacks. I've never seen a 4-post 1/8" plug or adapter before - I smell the stench of a proprietary connector.
Upon further newsgroup research, I came across a post from someone that claims that you can call Creative customer service (at 1-800-998-1000) and get a Digital DIN to Mini-8 gender-bender cable shipped to you, but provided that you can supply them with serial numbers from both your sond card and your creative speaker system.
The big catch is that if you buy Creative's FPS 2000 Surround or DTT2500 Dolby Digital speaker system, it requires this special cable to interface with the 4-post Digital S/PDIF jack. Likewise, if you want to take the Digital-out signal and pump it through your Dolby Pro Logic or AC-3 receiver, you'll need this extra cable - at the very least.

The Soundblaster Live card I got (actually the second one I purchased), is a black faced card and has a little gold emblem on the corner that says: Live! on it. I don't know the model # as it is in my son's pc and I can't get in it right now. But after I put those drivers I stated in (both sets/one for each O/S) it works fine now.

Well I'll try the other driver that was stated by Dan. But I tried the liveware 3.0 and it does the exact same thing.. Asks me for drivers that were already installed right (like the usb mouse) And even after that when I reboot it still hangs..
I dont know if this other drivers going to work but if it does i'll let you all know.
I just hope I'll actually be able to use this instead of it collecting dust :|Got Geek?

I currently have 2 SBLives and 1 Audigy in of of my PCs to use for Audio recording.
CT4830,
CT4780,
SB0090I use the kX drivers. Up until a couple months ago I was using Win98SE with them:
http://come.to/sblive
If interested in trying these, make sure you read all the Beginner guides mentioned on the Forum stickies:
http://www.driverheaven.net/forumdisplay.php?f=67With Win 98SE, try version 3537 instead of new Beta release 3538a.
Note: Complete Uninstallation of Creative Labs drivers required before installing the kX drivers-Really!

Ok I tried everything I was told on this soundcard.. But everything seems to either not work or work with a flaw.. What I mean by this is I tried the other drivers, I get the same result.. Hanging... I tried the other one listed here:
http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/drivers/131/131403.htm
This time it seemed to work.. but after the wallpapre shows up as normal, it goes to a blue screen.. Oy...
Now this other driver that DR Mentioned was the only one that actually worked without a problem.. I had to try the 3534 version tho cause the 3537 caused the same problem of hanging.
Now that its working I thought I was done.. WRONG.. I tried to adjust the volumes on this new mixxer that the KX driver includes but nothing changes.. The only volume that works is the master volume.. It wont even let me change other volumes like say the wav etc..
I'm begginging to think it would be better just to use my old one for now till I get a new one "With a driver" lol. But I'm not gonna give up just yet.. Let me know if you guys have any other sujestions..
Thanks for everything.
btw my old soundcard is a soundblaster PCI 16
Got Geek?

I've got a SoundBlaster Live! Value installation cd. It doesn't have a CT reference number so I can't say for sure that it's the right one for your card.
The apparent driver folder on it is about 6 meg so it's a bit big to email. I could burn a copy of the disk and send it to you.

Hmm.. It might not be the right one but i guess its worth a try.. You cant email it to me? I'm useing a fast broadband connection so that wouldnt be a problem.. you could always make an image out of it and zip it then send it.. I dont know.. I'm running out of ideas lol.. I'm almost desperate to try anything at this point.
Got Geek?

I'll give it a try. It's about 4.4 meg zipped. The files dates look to be older than the 131403 driverguide download.

By the way you might want to try sending it to this addy

my hotmail account wont take things bigger then 2 megs heh..
Got Geek?

Thanks. I just got it in my email. I'll have to try it in the morning though..
Thanks again Dave! I'll let ya know if it worked or not.
And if anyone else has a sudjestion please please let me know..
thanks for everything guys :)
Got Geek?

Well I tried the driver Dave sent me and it only worked halfway.. there seems to be two drivers for this thing :|.. and only one was right... oy.. I'm running out of ideas here.. I'm almost tempted to format the HDD and see if its somthing thats in the system files thats causeing this not to work... I dont know.. I'll probably leave it alone for now till I can find an answer and just use my old soundcard for now..
Got Geek?

If the sound drivers show up in add/remove programs in control panel, remove them there and start fresh. I've noticed with SB cards that sometimes if the incorrect drivers are installed first, subsequent installation of the correct drivers may fail.

Sadly I've tried that :(.. Nothings working.. I'll probably wait and try it again when I have to do another format of the HDD.. and if that doesnt work either.. I'm gonna cry lol. If only the KX driver would have worked properly.. Oh well.. I suppose I can by a soundblaster live! 5.1 from creative WITH the driver lol... Dont worry though I'm not giveing up yet... but thanks for all the help guys :)
