I am running Windows 98 and I have a Soundblaster 16 sound card. I can hear the windows sounds but when I play a CD, I don't hear anything. I have external speakers. I have tried downloading from the soundblaster site, but I don't think I downloaded the right application. I tried to search by Ct # and it wasn't there. When I go to device manager, I see "CREATIVE SOUNDBLASTER 16 OR AWE-32." Anyone know why I can't hear the CD playing? Is it just a matter of drivers? I'd appreciate any ideas.

i had this problem once, but all that it was was the fact that my sister had been playing around with my settings with the volume.
maybe when u play your cd, if u play it thur media player, or winamp or sumet like that, then maybe your volume controls are on silent, which means you will have to find them and find out if they are or not.

There is a sound cable which goes from the cdrom device to the sound card. Maybe that is unplugged.
The inly places i have on the card to plug something in is a white 4 pin little thing that says cd in, a 3 pin place in front of line in, a 40 pin spot that says panasonic drive, and a place in front of speaker out. what does the cable look like?

The cdrom sound cable is a small round (usually grey) thingy. It has a 4 pin (3 wires) connector at each end.
