sound recorder not working after Win 98 upgrade

Hi, all! I just found out that sound recorder does not work after I upgraded to Windows 98. Any suggestions on what I should do? TIA.

Probably because Win98 puts that slow, lame Media Player in and it takes over, another "enhancement" we're supposed to love from Microsoft.

Mine stopped working just before Y2K - I accepted 'critical updates' to '98 to get complaint and resolve security issues, etc.
Via Voice, sound recorder, net meeting - all shot. Anyone have any luck - I'm toying with starting from scratch and Fdisking - I don't want to do that if I can avoid it.

I can play wav files but I cannot use the in-line fuction. I've tried all options on the volume control but nothing worked.
