when i play a .mpg or a movie file there is this popping sound, but if i minimize the movie ther popping goes away...and it's not the speakers(i've tried that)

Try lowering your hardware acceleration. Go to Device Manager (winkey+pause/break key), click on the perfomance tab, and click on the graphics button. Move the slider all the way to none, and reboot. Now try playing a movie. If it solved the problem go back to the settings and bump the slider up one setting at a time untill you get a good balance between audio and video perfomance.
