I have recently installed a dual boot setup using ntldr for windows 95B. I have had to download drivers for a lot of things. so far i have completed video and chipset. I am now on sound. I have a Via chipset with an AC'97 sound device. I have found drivers on the Via website but when I try to run the setup it fails saying "Failed to load dll: viasetup". I have gotten windows to find the drivers itself, but to only find it is not loading the drivers. I have used two different methods of installing drivers. removing the device and pointing to the drivers or by updating the drivers when windows sees the device bu doesn't know what it is. does anyone know what i need to do?

Your audio chip is a Realtek ALC201, not VIA. Try downloading & installing the correct drivers.

Realtek says in the FAQ that they only provide half of the sound component: the codec. they do not provide drivers for the sound device. I tried the driver on realtek anyway (it did say it would work on the VT8233A south bridge) but to only find that the driver loaded but said there was an unknown error with the device.

Check the "I accept" box, click next, then download the Windows 95 driver:

Realtek AC'97 Audio Codecs
