sound not working on a game

i have a game called nascar racing 2 and i cant get the sound to work for it...the sound works on everything else just not this game! everytime i go to autodetect sound and test it the computer locks up! cant someone help me?

Look up the sound settings you are using in other applications. Then modify the nascar racing sound settings to match the other sound settings exactly (if possible). The easiest way to fiqure out which sound settings to use is to first know what type of sound card is in the computer and the settings it's set up to use. Then you tell your game to use those settings.

i have a game called Rogue Spear. when i play the game the sound will not work in the begging. It does work in the background when i am picking players but it doesn't work on when i am acually playing the game. I can't hear the shots being fired or any of the other sounds that i am supposed to hear. also the basic computer sounds are not working either. When i get online, i can't hear the "welcome" or when i get off i can't hear the "goodbye." I have windows 98 and when i turn i used to hear the systems start but now i don't; please help!!!
