(Windows 98 SE). Sound folder won't open in Control Panel. It simply refuses to respond. And when I right/click on the sound icon on my desktop bar (adjust sound properties) it says: "Error loading MMSYS.CPL one of the library files needed to run this application cannot be found". I extracted a new MMSYS.CPL from the Windows CD. Nothing changed. I looked in the control.ini and that file was under "don't load", so I made it go away. The real problem here is that I have terrible shutdown problems and I read in a doc on Microsoft that the fix for that is in the darn Sounds file. Grrrrr! Help!!!
HELP!!!!!!! Neither the Sounds nor the Multimedia folders in Control Panel will open and now I'm not only having shut-down problems, but this morning it took me a half hour to get my computer to start - using boot disks! I am SO messed up! Neither Microsoft nor the site John cited above seem to have the answers I need.
