My computer stopped Playing my wav files.
I can only here midi or cd's. When I try to play a wav file, I get an error,"No audio Hardware is available or sound card is in use. I know My sound card is installed correctly. This just started happening after about 3months. I noticed it after I installed a UPS power supply along with it's Power management software. Could this be the problem? Ive uninstalled evrything and nothing seems to resolve this problem. Please help,
P.S.
I'm Planning on setting up a slave hard drive to see if this drive plays everything ok. But I need help fixing my other disk.

Warlock,
Try going into "My Computer", click on view, options, then file types. go down until you see WAV or wave sound in the left box.
If you do not see it click the "new type" button. Under description type wave sound and allocation is *.wav just like that. Click on the "new" tab and under actions type open, or you can type play. Then click "browse" and go through windows and look for SNDREC32.exe. Select that and restart.
See if that works.

Warloc,
Sounds like the problem occured, according to you, after you installed the UPS software. I'd try disabling that first & see if the problem goes away.
If you're running 98, type 'msconfig' at the run command, then click on the 'startup' tab at the far left & click on the check mark near the UPS software. Reboot & see if the sound works.
