I just purchased an E-machine with Win 98 second edition and when I went to load the game 11th hour it wouldn't run because it couldn't set up the sound. After checking, I found that I have a Crystal Sound Fusion PCI chipset model# CS4280. I can not find drivers for DOS sound support anywhere. Does this mean I can't play any of the DOS based games? What about other older software?

I am very interested in the answer given to Shawn about the game 11th Hour and the fact that his Crystal Sound Fusion PCI audio cards would not allow setup for sound. I purchased the same gane this week-end and have become quite frustrated. Do I have to take a loss on the purchase of the game or go out and buy new sound cards? HELP

I have a HP Brio, that comes with the same chip. On the HP CD, there is a batch file called sb.bat, that calls another dos file that initializes the sound card. This is not neccessary for Win9x, but a number of old games seem to need it. This way I could get sound for Toonstruck. NB. the driver must be loaded before Win9x loads, eg in the autoexec.bat.

Don't know if this works for the 11th hour or your machines. Dig into your install CDs and look for the sound drivers.

You do not need new drivers for this , if you run win 9x u can just create a new enviroment for the "game" or program , by doing this from a win enviroment you can then bring your already loaded drivers into the new dos enviroment you created.

I finally got the sounds to work in dos games thanks to you, Roger Wilco. I too have HP Brio with Crystal Sound Fusion.

There's still one problem: the sound effects are constantly snapping and clicking... what to do?

My laptop has a Crystal Sound Fusion card which works fine in Windows but in Dos plays no sound. I have no dos driver for the card but even when I start a Dos window from in Windows 98 and try and 'autodetect' the card from Dos-based games it still does not find it. I can't even do it manually without knowing the card's settings.
Any help would be great as this problem has dogged me for ages.
