I have obtained an old pc and would like to use it to update the av processor in my hifi system. To do this I need to fit a sound card. Advice on two counts please - is the pc up to running a simple sound card (5.1 not required)? Also, if so any suggestions re what and where from?
Many thanks for any help....

I'm not sure what you are planning on accomplishing. But that system should handle any sound card that you throw at it. Now if you plan on that system also handling the video, you `might' run into problems there.

Sure - you can put any compatible soundcard in even a humble 386, but to play modern music formats such as MP3 or WMA files, you may not have enough processing power @ 133MHz.
Cds should play fine though - don't forget to hook up the tiny cable.
(5.1 ??)
I'm just looking for clues at the scene of the crime

Thanks for the advice ham30 and jboy. My own pc will do all I need but I prefer not to have to disconnect it all and cart it into the lounge. Tried my laptop with the av processor but have problems geting them to converse (usb to serial convertor problems). So this surplus old pc might do the trick, providing it has a simple soundcard (stereo out and mic in, dolby digital 5.1 not required).
ding - my fault, I probably meant upgrade - ie download the latest version of the software from the net and then upgrade the avp.
