I have a AMD K6-II 350mhz/64 megs RAM running with win98. SB AWE64 sound card won't work after installing SM56 internal modem powered by software. Motorola chipset and drivers. Some programs freeze when they try to access sound card, and no more than 1.5 seconds on others. It has virtual comm port 4 and this port doesn't show in device manager. No duplicate devices or IRQ settings. Modem works fine. Please help.

Sounds wierd but has worked for me and don't know why. Is your modem pci? If so place it in the first pci slot on the board. You will want to remove it in device manager first. This may do the trick. If not I'd start looking for updates for the AWE. Lastly you may have to set plug/play OS to no in the bios and configure manually. I hope the first works for ya!
