I have installed a sound blaster(PCI)my system is win98, 48RAM, P133. when I try to play a simple sound I get 'cannot play back the audio stream, no audio hardware is availble or the hardware is not responding'. When I check the system properties there is a yellow ! over the SCS1 controller. I thought that there was a problem with the sound card so I put in a different one....a Sound Blaster64.....same problem....Please help me!!!!!!!!!!....just as a note this comp never had a sound card nor does it have it built onto the motherboard....

Is your cdrom IDE or SCSI in type?

Have you checked that the audio cable from the cdrom is connected to the sound card?

Not sure what the differance is?? But the SB16 had a ribbon cable to the CDROM as well as the small wire for sound....and now the SB64 is on it's own ..only the small wire...and yes all hooked up.....Did I answer your IDE or SCS1?!?!?!?!

If the cdrom is SCSI, it needs a SCSI host adapter (a card to be put on the motherboard and with the flat ribbon cable connected to it from the cdrom) for it to work. If it's IDE, then it doesn't need that.

It sounds like you have a possible IRQ conflict between your cards. Check the properties of your sndcard and SCSI card. In the control panels window go to system, then device manager, click on your card and click on properties. You should see an IRQ setting for your cards. If you can set a different IRQ on your sndcard. There may be pins on your sndcard to do just that. Also you may want to check your BIOS and assign your sndcard IRQ to it alone ( as a legacy/ISA only).

If your crdrom is IDE it should be on the same connection ribbon that your HD is on.
Check your mobo.

luck
