Hi Gang,
I am about to throw in the towel with reference to my other computer. That spyware netsetter has really fouled up my machine. I was given the last piece of information to eliminate this virus like program. This was a hidden file in the system folder of windows. I deleted this file and thought I was home free of this scourge, but it is having the last laugh. Thanks to all who have helped me ridding pieces of this program scattered around in my computer, but it still is blocking my browser from coming online. Is there a program or a routine that can pinpoint what is preventing either of my browsers from accessing the net. Years ago in the dos days, I knew these program existed. I don't know if they carried over into the windows os. If I can't remove this blockage, I may have to erase everything on my hd since I am not sure what is blocking ie or netscape from functioning. The isp tells me I am logged on and thats as far as I get to accessing the net. If someone knows of anything that can trackdown this invader, I surely would appreciate it,
thank you again for all the help you have given me with reference to the problem I have had with this computer,
charlie

Have you done the steps listed here in this post regarding the winsock2 key in the registry?

http://computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/131542.html

If not do so.

I have gotten rid of netsetter many times, after every time I have removed it i have had to edit the registry and rebuild the winsock2 key.

Hello John and DJ,
this netsetter has laid up my computer for over three weeks, I have been getting a lot of input to rid me of netsetter, you are lucky, there were a few posts about this pain in the butt, that wouldn't go away. I will check out the post you told me about and thanks for that John. To Dj, this is spyware that sneaks into your machine by downloading some program you get off the net, most people don't know it's there. The only way I found out about it was from computing.net. I have a firewall on my computer, it started asking me if it was alright to allow ossproxy.exe to connect to the net, not knowing what ossproxy was I would allow access to it and my machine. This website told me what ossproxy was and i started blocking its access to the net. As I was attempting to remove it from my machine, all of a sudden, it was blocking me from accessing the net and thats where I am with my other computer. I don't know how you can prevent this from entering your machine other then to tell you be careful about what you download from the net, especially the programs that are supposed to help inprove your computer. I will now get the information John was good enough to tell me about,
thank you,
charlie

I'm sure you do, particularly if you are a pc specialist.

Nesetter seems to creep in when you least expect it. If you download a web accelerator, like this guy posting this thread probably did, the grasp is pervasive.
I had a couple of files or Registry entries that were identified by Spybot, but Spybot took care of it. Have not seen any traces since.

How do you manage to get rid of a pervasive Netsetter invasion, besides using the winsock fix?
