Some/no sound in win98

Hi all, I just upgraded to win 98 and a AMD K6-2 chip. I have a SoundBlaster ISA PnP card and with the most recent drivers from Creative and Microsoft's latest DirectX 8.1. I get no sound with video, system .wavs only play completely when they are short, 8-bit and mono. Midi plays fine. Media programs display messages saying either (soundcard) device is in use or hardware doesn't exist. I have fiddled with everything I can change; the codecs, IRQs for the card, shutting off hardware acceleration (not supported by the card anyway). What have I not thought of? Thanks guys.

Double check the Multimedia folder in control panel. Double check that your SB card is selected.
Otherwise , Creative has instructions for re-installing the drivers via clean sweep, from within safe mode. I've gone that route before & it worked for me.
Be sure to physically remove the card from the machine also, and let it re-boot once in safe mode to be sure that all is really cleaned out before you re-install the card & drivers.
good luck.

Ray,
Have you run dxdiag (Start>Run: dxdiag, go to the Sound tab) and checked out if any problems are reported there? There is a Test option, also check out Notes.
