Software to improve midi playback?

Is there any software or drivers I can download to improve MIDI sound? The current MIDI output is set to "Creative Music Synth [220]" which sound terrible.

No, not really. The quality of the sound depends on your sound card and the chip it uses...An early SB ISA card sounds like crap compared to a SB Live PCI card. Upgrade?
