Hi All,
I bought a used amptron pm9200b board and installed it in my 486 box. I kept all the old 486 hardware except the modem, which I bought new. At first I had trouble getting it to recognize the hard drive (800mb) but later discoverd the CMOS autodection feature. No problems. It works fine, except that it hangs during a soft reboot (both cntrl/alt-del and the reboot switch) usually around the "starting windows 98" line. I then have to turn it off and on. Also, I've noticed two other things, which may or may not be related. The hard drive is on my Secondary master and the Primary master says, "not installed". And when I run Bla.exe I get a very high number for the floppy controller, about 700. (I haven't any idea what this number means or if it's reasonable.) The system normally boots in about a minute, so I suppose that's normal.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

I believe the primary/secondary master depends on which plug is plugged into the hard drive. On the ribbion cable from your hard drive to the mother board the end plug should be the primary and the middle the secondary. Sounds like you got your cable mixed but if it works, leave well enough alone.

Brian is mistaken. Primary and secondary is determined by which connector the cable is plugged into on the motherboard. Master or slave is determined by plugging on the drive. Both connectors on a cable are identical and have no effect on addressing.
