For some reason all of a sudden all my internet programs can't connect to the net after I did a installation. Dial up works - the 2 green screens on the task bar come up. (might have to try pinging)
I get the error message:
"Component 'WINSCK.OCX' not correctly registered: file is missing or invalid"
I searched the web (at a friends place) and found the file and put it in windows\systems, but it still tells me it needs to be registered.Even if I don't try to connect to the net, as my windows 98 starts my "Tiny Personal Firewall" gives me this error at start up:
"PfVarLiblnit: var_server_start error: (socket() failed)"
then
"FilterLogSysloglnit: Unable to open socket (error: 10047) - logging to syslog will not work"I searched the net, found one or two sites but didn't get an explanation how to fix the problem.

Check the dates on the sock files and TCP/IP files, the should match the date of the os files win98 5-11-98, win98se 4-23-99 if they are not use SFC from the run line to extract them. For the TCP/IP stack files V*.386 see the notes below
Winsock.dll
Wsock.vxd
Wsock32.dll
Wsock2.vxd
Ws2_32.dll
Rnr20.dll
Replace as necessary with Start>run>SFC
the TCP/IP files
Vip.386
vnbt.386
vtcp.386
vtdi.386
vudp.386
vdhcp.386To replace TCP/IP
Go to network properties remove all instances of TCP/IP
Close it, ignore any error on network not being complete
File find v*.386
Rename the following files in the \windows\system and \windows\options\cabs folders
Vip.386
vnbt.386
vtcp.386
vtdi.386
vudp.386
vdhcp.386reboot reinstall TCP/IP
If you can get online go to antivirus.com and do a free online scan
Shoot me an email let me know how this worked out
