I've suddenly developed a problem with my sndvol32.exe file in Win98. It worked fine for months, but now suddenly the little icon has disappeared from the tray, and I can't get the file to run even by going into Explorer and directly clicking on the file. Any ideas??? Thanks.

the file may be corrupted. you can rename or delete this file(default loc.C:\windows) then:
click start-----run-----type in "sfc" (w/out quotes)-----this is System File Checker--click circle next to "extract one file....."----type in the file name "sndvol32.exe"-----click start-----
in "restore from" box it should read C:\windows\options\cabs
in "save file in" box it should read
C:\windows
click ok. a clean stored copy will be added to windows directory.
*next to make sure this file sits in your tray click control panel-----multimedia-----check the box for "show icon in taskbar"----click ok,exit
that should do it
*learn to use "sfc" and also adjust the settings in it to your preferences.

I've just encountered the same problem with the sndvol32.exe file as did Mr. Smith. I tried the solution suggested by TheHomeHacker without success.
Anyone have an answer?

where can i download the sndvol32.exe file the original one cause when i click on it nuthin happens

Praise the LYCOS!!!! I have found my volume control back! It was gone right after I deleted Napster, don't even get me started! Anyway, what you do is this: Go to www.lycos.com, click on ADVANCED SEARCH, type in: Sndvol32.exe, then click the "radio button" or check mark on FTP, then search!!! It's the very first one on the list. I hope I could help,
Wade
Ps: Email me for more info, computers are my thing! Panther@fbg.net

ANOTHER POSSIBLE CAUSE/SOLUTION
(this is a copy of a message I already inserted on another similar subject in this site: in this way, I hope to help more)if your sndvol32.exe is good but does'nt work
SNDVOL32.EXE has heavy dependencies with
winmm.dll.
I mean sndvol32 can no longer work if some SW kit replaces your winmm.dll with another (not compatible) version.
That was my case.
I found discrepancy between my current winmm and the winmm installed on another computer at the (supposed) same level.
replacing the dll, sndvol32 went back to the standard activity, without replacing it.
I'm sure some other possible causes for that problem does exist, but I suggest you verify your winmm, and try another version of them.
