This is a very strange problem I'm having since I formatted my computer and re-installed windows 98 SE. Downloading anything from the internet has become a nigthmare. I have a systemax pc with 20GB and 500MHz intel processor. I even use a DSL connection of about 10MBps or more, but when I try to load a page from the internet, it takes a while, and then when I try to download data/files from any site, it runs so slow that it always times out, and then I have to re-start it every time. last night, in trying to download a display driver of about 7.0mb, it took me all afternoon and all night to download it. Has anyone experienced this before and does anyone know how I can fix this. Even my laptop, which is a compaq, with 233MHz intel processor, downloads much faster than this PC. Please help!! Dave

Your DSL is 10 MBps? I find that hard to believe...........
Please give more info about your configuration....

Thanks Lyle,
I might be wrong about the DSL connection, but it is certainly better than 56Kbps connection I had through a dial-up line I used to have.I am not very sure about the configuration information you requested, but I it says under the properties that I have a pentium III genuineIntel processor with 128.0 MB RAM,
I have 19GB hard disk free. I have a dial up adapter and Netgear fa311 fast ethernet pci adapter.
In my TCP/IP properties for the netgear adapter, i have disabled DNS, I use DHCP for WINS resolution and I don't have any gateways installed. If you need more information other than this, please let me know how to find it. thanks

Hello,
If you are using Internet Explorer, I think problem is coming from there.
Try this "repair" option provided by this program but unknown from many users:
Go to Control Panel, open icon "add and remove programs", find line "internet explorer and his tools" click on it, 3 options possibles: one of them is "REPAIR", run this option, IE will scan for dammaged or corrupted files and will restore original drivers configuration, ending this procedure, you will be asked to reboot your computer. Problem should be resolved....

I have had it happen. I had a file in IE that was corrupted and it took forever to do just about everything on the net. I never got and error which made it difficult to diagnose. The bottom line I tried to do a repair and that did not work, but as it was so slow to download I downloaded IE 6 at work and reinstalled it over the top and it cured the problem. With a connection like yours it should go very fast.
