hi,

i have a belkin expressbus plus multi port hub attached to my p2 450 system. the problem seems to be that if the hub is attached and powered up on boot the system takes forever to load (were talking 20 mins plus) it takes 4 mins between the bios recognising the mouse and keyboard!

the odd thing is if i boot without it connected its fine. then when i connect the hub it works well. (the hub has 3 usb ports one parralel and one serial)

anyone got any ideas?????

Are your USB root ports hardwired to the motherboard, plugged into it via a wire and 4- or 5-pin conenctors, or on a PCI card? I assume you've tried switching USB ports; try flipping the mobo connector if it's the second type. My USB scanner used to reset the computer a few times at POST before letting it boot up, though I never experienced a slowdown. Are you by any chance using Win95B?

I had the same problem about 6 mos. ago with a Belkin F5U021 economy 4-port hub. Disconnecting/reconnecting seemed to fix - it has happened once since. I found this on the Dell site and I've done it several times: http://support.dell.com/us/en/kb/document.asp?DN=HO1017251

I have several questions:
1. I'm having other problems intermittent (system locks, gray screen, etc.) - might these be related to the hub?
2. How do I know if I should be using it with the AC adapter? So far I've been using it as a powered hub.

I think I may unplug everything and use the PC USB ports for the 2 things I really need right now (printer & DSL modem). Also turned off NAV autoprotect.
