Comment:

Just installed a 20 Gig HDD (Slave)with ME on it to the excisting 10 Gig Master, also with ME on it. Jumpers are set correctly,Cable is connected correctly,End to Master,Middle Connection to the Slave.BIOS sees them correctly and the Setting is
set to boot from C:\(Master). However, the PC
boots from the Slave! Where did I go wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Are you trying to get two installs of ME on the same computer ?

Why would you need to do this ? Let me know if I'm off base here ....

If you want to wipe out the second drive, boot from floppy and use fdisk to erase the partition, then re enter the partition and format.

You should be able to boot from the primary device.

Also, make sure that your primary boot device in BIOS is set to C

There are two Cables, Primary/Secondary.
The Primary goes to the 2 HDDs the other one
to the CD-ROM.

It just so happened, that the SLAVE had ME
on it, that's why I left it alone. Does it
matter what is on the SLAVE? The PC should
still boot from C:\(Master)or doesn't it?

Your primary Master should be at the END of the primary cable and not in the middle. Sometimes, even when the jumpers are set correctly, Windows will boot from the End drive.

Hello everyone,

Check you BIOS settings.

Ensure it is set to look for the Primary Master before the Primary Slave.

On this particular computer the BIOS has:
1st Boot Device= Floppy
2nd Boot Device= IDE-0
3rd Boot Device= CDROM

If I changed the 2nd Boot Device to IDE-1 it would first check the floppy for a boot record and then the Slave on the Primary IDE. If it still did not find a boot record it would continue on looking at the CDROM.

In your case, if the 1st device was set to the Floppy and the 2nd device was set to IDE-1, it would not find the boot record on the floppy. It would then continue and find the boot record on IDE-1, your Primary Slave and attempt to boot from it before looking elsewhere.

HTH

Best Regards,
Mesich

Thanks to all of you so far.
The BIOS only gives me the choise for the
first Boot: C: or A: A: or C:
C: or CD CD or C:
As I said above, it is set to first boot C:\

Hi Langener, hello everyone,

That you did, I shall pay a bit more attention in my reading. :-)

What happens if you place the current Slave on the Secondary IDE as a Master or Slave?

Does it now boot from the Primary Master as it should?

Best Regards,
Mesich

Regardless of the HD drive order, the system should boot from whichever drive has the active partition. Run fdisk and use option 5 to switch between the two drives to see which is active.

If D: is active you'll need to disable it in cmos or disconnect it, run fdisk again and set c: active. Then reconnect/enable d:. Even if both are set active it should boot from the primary master.
