A few days ago, I executed a bare-bones installation of my Windows 98SE operating system.
There are six keys in my Registry I'm curious about:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MRANENIA
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist\{5E6AB780-7743-11CF-A12B-00AA004AE837}
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist\{5E6AB780-7743-11CF-A12B-00AA004AE837}\Count
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist\{75048700-EF1F-11D0-9888-006097DEACF9}
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist\{75048700-EF1F-11D0-9888-006097DEACF9}\Count
Does anyone know what purpose they serve and if there is no harm in deleting them if I desired?Thanks for your direct reply.

Hi, The {5E6AB780-7743-11CF-A12B-00AA004AE837} clsid refers to Microsoft Internet Toolbar, so I imagine it probally would make a diference to MS Internet Explorer if you removed and of these keys refering to this CLSID.
I do not know anything about the 'MRANENIA' key, except that it is in all installs.
Hope This Helps you solve your problem.
