Installed new 830CF motherboard with onboard sound. Win98 sees new sound card and when I install the SiS 7018 drivers, everything looks okay, no hardware errors in system folder, shows the device, but Win98 se still shows no multimedia devices. My other board had the same onboard sound card yet different bus controllers and no onboard video. I see drivers etc in the Windows System Catroot folder. Could I delete the folder pertaining to the new and old board in the catroot folder and have windows redetect it?

I've run into this several times, and discovered this fix. The SiS Win98SE (wdm) drivers are not the right drivers for the 7018 chipset. Uninstall the card in the device manager, then reboot. When windows detects the card again, use the drivers for Win95/Win98 1st edition (vxd), they work fine.
