Hello, I have 256mb DDR pc2100, I was wondering if I could get 512mb more only PC2700 or PC3000. Could I do this? If I can, I'm pretty sure I should move the pc2100 over to the last slot, and the faster ones in slot 0 & 1. Let me know if I can do this! Thanks alot, Justin

No I don't think you can, but you can get another 256MB DDR pc2100 (133Mhz) stick to make it 512MB.

No. There is no way that you can have different rated DDR on the same mainboard(motherboard -mobo for short). If it is possible to configure the system in this way then the whole bus would have to operate at the speed of the slowest component i.e., in your case, the '256mb DDR pc2100'. The position of the actual Modules in the motherboard should be irrelevant.
I am quite prepared to have made errors as these are rough assumptions, but they are based on robust knowledge.

Knowing what your MOBO is might be helpful but is probably irrelevant.
I sort of agree with OS Man. I tried to look it up but wasn’t very successful. Check out Google, it’s your question.
My suspicion is that DDR may be like SDRAM. It’s probably quirky. You can probably mix SOME sticks of different speed RAM but it will run at the speed of the slowest stick.

Summary: The type of RAM that you need is determined by what your motherboard requires. The manual should tell you which to get. If you don't have one, go to www.crucial.com For a discussion of the specific qu...
