Hi there, My system got three ram, 3 x 128mb. All three are Kingston brand. 2 x pc100 and 1 x pc133. Today i just realise that my out of my three ram, one is DIMM and two are SIMM. Is it alright to do the setting in this way? Last time, i am a IT noob. that why i only know that to put extra ram will be good for pc but doesn't know the different between DIMM and SIMM. Pls get back to me with some advice. your advice is greatly appreaciate. My Motherboard is Abit BH6, Award BIOS. Secondly, Is it save/possible to Update my BIOS so i can use a bigger GB HDD instead the maximum of 20GB now? My CPU is Pentium 2 350Mhz. thanks for your viewing.

hi x86. My pc100 confirm is a SIMM ram as they are only one side mounted chip.

Chips mounted on one side and SIMMs are different things. DIMMs can have all the chips on one side or both. Maybe your motherboard cannot handle DIMMs with chips on both sides.

Simms (single inline memory modules) had to be used in pairs and the last machines that I know of to use them were 486 class. As was stated you problably have 168 pin DIMMS, which can be installed individually. The density of each chip on the module x number of chips = mudule capacity. Older Modules used lower density chips so to optain more MBs installed chips on both sides of the module. The chipset and BIOS on your MB determine what kind of memory modules you can use. Some MB allow the use of either 168 pin sdram or 184 pin ddram but not at the same time.
Summary: I have a question regarding how I can tell the difference between simms and dimms. I am currently working on a computer with ram that has ic chips on both sides of the board, I want to say that is sim...
Summary: Cardinal rule number one... No can mix DIMM & SIMM And speaking of old RAM keychains... I did that with some old 4MB cards. Lacquered them; attached keychain to them, and then sold them at flea mark...
