I have another problem with my pc. When i shut down my computer gets stuck on a black screen with a dash flashing on the top left hand side. I think that my shutdown logo got accidently deleted. Previously my computer used to get stuck on the blue windows 98 screen and i had to manually shut it down. Now it doesn;t even show that. When it starts up, it shows the normal screen. Am i right in guessing that i deleted my shutdown logo for my pc. If so how do i replace it?

Thanks

Likely not:

In Windows 95, 98, and ME the startup logo screen is controlled by the file C:\Logo.sys.If this file does not exist, Windows will load the default logo screen that is inside the file C:\IO.sys.

Maybe check out the link provided here for shutdown problems

Oops - wrong screen

Ok, you can search for logos.sys (the shutdown screen) on your machine, if actually missing you may extract it from the CD with SFC

Probably though, your machine is just hanging at shutdown, and that link may provide a solution

System File Checker

Just open the 'run' menu and type it in, then select 'Extract one file....'

You'll need the CD

... is there an echo? ; )

Yes, unless you have the CAB files backed up on your hard drive (recommended, but not essential)

Might want to see if it's actually missing though

Just for information, SFC is part of "System Information" (Tools) which is msinfo in the Run box.
MS provide a rather long winded route to msinfo which is:

Start button/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information.

All of the msinfo facilities can be accessed via the Run box, which we tend to use because it is quicker and more convenient.

As SFC has been mentioned you should read this sometime (my complation plus WhitPhil's additions):

SFC CAN GET IT WRONG

It is fine for what jboy suggested though.

Sure - if you actually use it to, y'know, check files then you need to be aware of its quirks, and keep it current.

As a CAB file extractor, it works reasonably well

Yep. Probably the most common blunder is to use it to extract original files off the W98 CD when these have been updated - IE being the most common example. It's fine for extracting files from the full IE download or an IE CD (and other general cabs, as you say). It's "move on boot" facility is handy.

Heh - hey Dan Penny ; )

Gotta have some fun

I'm not convinced that logos.sys is missing, but I suppose it won't hurt to find out.

SFC really isn't well understood by many, but it can be pretty useful
