Howdy, Well how many programs do you have running in the background when you go to shutdown. Not items showing in the tast bar but in the system tray, the little box in the lower right hand corner with the time is the system tray. Most folks don't relize it but windows opens tons of stuff and runs it without you knowing it and these programs must close when you shut down the system and from what you described a program (s) is not closing properly. Try this, start the computer up and then shut it down right away and see if the problem happens, if it doesn't restart and use the computer for a good hour and then see if it hangs at shutdown, the more you do the longer it takes for the system to normaly shut down. Its just a matter of finding what is hanging, you can also do the ctrl-alt-del to bring up the end task box to see what is running in the background when you go to shutdown.

Howdy, Rob. Yes you can disable the display icon and system wizard as well as McAfee and the system will run fine. You won't have it running in the background anymore though to scan for a virus. Check the settings of McAfee though and make sure its not set to scan at shutdown. I don't have the latest version on my system so I can't tell ya what to look for, I don't really have a need for a virus scanner to be present on my computer. IF you disable McAfee though remember you have to tell it to scan for a virus, it won't do it automaticly.
