I'm having a problem with a Sony 505gx running Win98 and Office 2K. Most of the time I shut it down it gives an Illegal procedure with different programs each time. I then have to manual boot because it wont respond to ctrl+alt+del. Does anyone know if this is connected to Office 2K or Win 98.

Have you used Windows Update through IE5.0? There was a patch there recently to Windows 98 to fix shut down errors. It might fix your problem.

I've been running O2k and Win 98 with no problems (knock on wood!) for a while. Your problem might be more inherent with your configuration. Post a sample of the error message you're getting for us to review.

My PII won't shutdown properly too, but there's no error message at all. It just locks up when the bitmap of 'Shutting down windows' comes up.

It's like he can't execute the automatic ATX shutdown or something ...

In win98 osr-1 I had no problems, but now in win98 OSR-2 it cannot do the shutdown.
There are no device conflicts, and it's a clean install.
A friend of mine had the same problem.

The error message is something like "xpoint32 cuased an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll at 0177:bff8836d." Xpoint is not the only program it has done it with systray and a couple other programs. Thanks for all the help.
