shut down issue

Comment:
When in safe mode the computer will shut down properly. Otherwise it will not. Windows is unloaded, then a black screen that says, "Not ready reading Drive C Abort, Retry, Fail?" Then when you press "F" it next says that it is safe to shut down your computer. Then you have to manually push the button to turn off the computer. Any ideas for a solution to this issue. Thanks

First thing I would do is uninstall each of the programs you just installed and see if it changes the behavior.

Run scandisk and do a surface scan.

Thanks for the advice from TekWiz and Daveincaps.
I looked through the sites provided by TekWiz, but still have not found the exact problem I am having. As to the advice by Daveincaps to run scandisk, I get the following result: The scandisk runs for a couple of minutes and then says it cannot continue because it is being interupted by another program. However it will run in safe mode except if you choose the "thorough..." radio button then the same thing happens.
