I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW IF IT IS BEST TO LEAVE MY COMPUTER ON AT NIGHT, OR TO SHUT IT DOWN EVERY NIGHT. I'VE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MANY FILES BEING MISREPORTED, ETC. AND I JUST WANT TO BE SURE.

I've actually heard that it's better to keep your system on all the time... I keep mine on an average about 15 days straight in a months time. I usually turn it off on the weekends. Depending on what model computer you got from where, most of them are designed to be on all the time. And someone once told me that it is better to keep them on.

Leaving your computer on does not hurt it at all. Be be aware that most puters have a life span measured in hours. I would say you could leave it running 24 hours per day for the next 2 years. But clean it! I personally feel nervous about leaving any electrical equipment on and running all the time when it's not in use.

Howdy, Well in the good ole days nobody shutdown there computers for the night and I still don't. I also don't use any type of power management I think one is better off shuting down the system than having it go into deep sleep zombie mode. Anyways, My 286 ran for years and years and I liked the whirl sound it made during the night, to be honest its a personal preference. I say leave it on but others will say turn it off. Just remember it is a computer and sooner than normaly the later it will fail.

Leaving it on does not hurt. The one I have at work has been on for years even most weekends. If I weren't so impatient about the 30-60 seconds it takes the computer to reboot from a cold start, I would turn it off every night, and cover it to prevent dust from accumulating inside. Definitely turn off the monitor. And I agree avoid the sleep mode.

I used to leave my computer on but not after covering it with a blanket and leaving a plate of cookies and a glass a milk out for it every night.
But that's just me.

I have a button on the front of my computer to put it asleep. It is a power saving device. Also, if the computer is inactive for a long period of time, it enters sleep mode automatically. In sleep mode the system turns the monitor and hard disk drive off and spins down the CD-ROM drive. To wake the computer up I push the same button.

I usually sleep WITH my computer. We like to spoon together. haha. Let's just say I turn my computer on and I leave her turned on! ALL... NIGHT... LONG!! WHOOOO!!
When I wake up in the morning, I say, "HEY!! In the words of that fat chick on Springer, it's time to kick you to the CURB, baby!" And I set her back on my desk.
Oh yeah.
Lazarus

I never shut mine off. Think about it, if everyone shut off their computers, the internet would also be shut down.

I like to play with graphics a lot and evidently PCs don't like graphics and photos so I have to shut down a lot to get the resources back so I figure I might as well turn off at night to let it rest up. Hoping that the next time it will last longer. Ha

Should I leave my computer out in the middle of a cow pasture?
If so I am going to have to buy some cows and put up some fencing.Sincerelys,

Hey you dips asking about the electric bill, not only does it take as much energy to boot up your computer as it does to leave it on for 36 hours straight in standby, it's also harder on your hardware and you'll be replacing your hard drive(s) and other parts sooner.
That said, ever wondered why people respond to really old threads? Search engines, baby, search engines. I was looking for the meaning of "spoon" and thanks to some retard's response up there, this URL came up. But I can't pass up the opportunity to set misinfo straight.

I am arguing with a work partner and he says leave it on I say turn it off .. My point is heat, dirt, spikes, and any other bad thing that might happen and me not being there to make it not happen.. My partner says the components can cool down and decrease the life span .... Somebody please help !!
