Shell doesn't work

Does anyone know why the following Shell function from Visual Basic would behave differently under Windows 98SE than Windows 95? retval = Shell("C:\command.com /c c:\mailer\getip.bat") This function seems to be ignored by Windows 98 whereas in 95 it runs without a hitch. Even if you type what's in quotes in the Run dialog in 98 it doesn't work; in 95 it does. Does anyone have an explanation for this? or workaround? I know that this function works in NT 4.0 too.

Is that bat really there on the 98SE box?

Hi, Set it up as SH$=The shell info. Do the shell as Shell=SH$. Haven't done it in a long time, but had the same problem the first time I tried it way back in GBasic.
Good Luck, Jim

Have you looked for the folder c:\mailer and the file getip.bat to see they are actually present?
They're not on my W98SE but maybe they have been added.
