I have begun to have intermittent problems when going to certain web sites like Yahoo and Google. I get an error on the toolbar of shdoclc.dll dnserror - the complete screen says can't find server. It does not happen all the time - only intermittently. It also happens on some other websites but the can't locate server message that comes up is broken up among the web page and I can still view the web page.
I had IE 6 but upgraded to IE 6SP1 - this did not help.
This all began about the same time as someone sent me an e-mail message with a virus (there was no attachment to the message or zip file). I removed the virus but had to delete the file it infected because it could not be repaired. I don't know how relevant this info is but I am sharing it just in case.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Open Add/Remove Programs and select IE6. If you select Remove it will give you an option to Repair IE6. Try the repair. If that doesn't help uninstall IE6 and restore the previous version. Later you can try installing IE6 again.

Thank you for the suggestion - I alrady tried the repair, but I will uninstall, etc. as you suggest.

G'day Feli, this happens to me alot these days irrespective of IE version or O/S. I did however manage to discover a 'fix' of sorts.
When this happens at a site that I know works but I get that DNS error page I go to the Internet Tools/Connections/Settings [for my ISP] and check or uncheck the 'Use a Proxy server' checkbox and then refresh my browser...most times it connects to the site.
Whatever the state of the checkbox I do the opposite no matter what the setting is at the time. I discovered this method by accident months ago but it really is annoying and I still don't know why it happens but at least I can fix it for the session. The next session may be the opposite again but with the same cursory language coming out of my mouth.
