Hi
I have a Compaq Presario 5240. Currently I have a DSL internet connection. My wife has an IMac w/ 9.2 OS upstairs. We would like to both be able to use the DSL line at the same time. We would like the upstairs IMac to work wireless.

We just purchaed an Airport Base Staion and an Airport Card. While browsing the web it seems to me that we possibly do not need the base station.

The only thing we are interested in is being able to both use the dsl line at the same time, we don't need to share ANY info between the 2 computers.

Long story short.
Is this possible?
What do I need?
How do I set everything up?

If we don't need all the Apple equipment and can get stuff for cheaper that would be great.

Thanks so much
Mark

My route would be with an access-router; SMC make a Barricade series - one includes a print server (one printer); Netgear have similar; as does D-link. I tend to avoid Linksys - many folks seem to have problems with their kit...? These companies are generally low to mid-price kit. There is a range of other mid/upper priced kit too from other companies; some does seem to be worth the extra - depending on your requirements.

DSL networking/sharing.

http://www.dslreports.com (pure dsl - but much applies equally to cable);

http://www.practicallynetworked.com - sharing section; (Tim Higgin's site)

both cover dsl sharing.

The second link also has a section re MAC to PC lan; it's under alternative networking (I think); well it's in there somewhere...

A search via google.com for:

sharing dsl with MAC and PC

(or something similar) will bring up several useful sites; each may help you resolve it. U do the search means I don't need to post the links here...

A mixed platform lan is not often covered in dsl sharing discussions; but the info (answer) is 'out there (Scully)...
