I gotta win98 box at home(dsl connection) i wanna share a dir. on so i can transfer goodies to and from work(i have permission, btw). Ok, so i got the workgroup on the home box setup, is this all i need to do w/ the workgroup or are there some more settings? do i have to setup a workgroup of the same name on the box at work? Shares are enabled in the home box also(w/ password setup).
BTW, anyone reading this and wanting to do the same should go get microsofts patch fer the one character password issue(win98/95).
Anyway, can i access the share via dos NET command? this doesnt seem to work @ work, connecting to shares on the lan. then again im no dos guru. Please give an example of how this is done.
Going the GUI route, how do i mount via net neighborhood. PLEASE write the example verbose. is it like?:
\\ip\\workgroup\share
then give password?
TIA,
Lee

If you shared everything as it's suposed to be,it will work.
Use this if you have a password(which i recommend).
net use "\\IP\sharedressourcehere" passwordhere
And then just type\\IP\sharedressourcehere
and a windows explorer should open with the ressource you shared.

It is good to know you patched the password bug, otherwise the password can be cracked in a second (not kidding, I've tried it on my home network)
You may wish to run a firewall (www.winroute.com - Tiny Personal Firewall is good for this situation) because you can prevent anyone eecept your Work IP(s) from accessing your MS networking. This reducing the change of something bad happening with people portscanning.
As was suggested you don't need the workgroup. To mount to a drive via gui:
goto run, type \\ip
it will list all avalible shares. Rightclick ans hit map network drive

Thanks Peer. Flawless. Also thank you Dave. but anyone reading this should note that i had trouble assigning a drive in dos, like i said im learning. also, the quotes are needed in dos as Dave stated. the help fer net use doesn't state this, thought u all should know, and password goes after ending quotes.
