What deleted files do you want to reinstall?

Just because SFC says they have been deleted doesn't mean you have to do anything about it!

WhitPhil is right. You can actually cause problems by restoring certain files.

Here are some examples:

gdi.exe - SFC gets it wrong.

krnl386.exe - SFC gets it wrong.

msisys.vxd - This file is modified every time MSINFO32 is run.

user.exe - SFC gets it wrong.

setupx.dll - SFC can extract wrong version (W98 first edition only).

vmm32.vxd - (constructed during windows installation, the one on the CD is only a shell).

i am trying to resolve 2 issues: a) persistent boot-up problems & b) constant crashes when using internet explorer. I guess most people would suggest re-installing my O/S but i was trying to avoid this as i am a little apprehensive about the re-installation process. I am concerned i wont be able to get back on the net at all!
I am using Win'98 SE and the pc is about 5 years old now and of late has been nothing but trouble.

If you have not been running SFC before and after every install and uninstall, then after this amount of time it's results are useless.

Better to start a new thread and explain exactly what boot up problems you are having and what errors you are getting with Explorer.

As well, have you run a full virus and spyware scan?

Just as an aside in case at any time in the future you consider using SFC, this link gives further info about it's oddities:
