I need some help restoring my old Toshiba laptop. When booting from the system boot disk that it shipped with it will start with CD-ROM support. However when starting Windows 95 setup i receive several messages about CDR101: Unable to Read CDROM drive not ready. Then after pressing the R key to retry it says "Setup is inistalizing.69" and exits. I cannot get it to install.

If your CD is "full MS W95" it might be worth trying it with a W98 bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com

Does the CD drive show up in BIOS?

Could be a dodgy CD.

Yes, it is the full OEM Windows 95 CDROM I purchased from toshiba. However the computer is incapable of booting from CD-ROMS. I have tried using a Windows 98 boot disk.

Thank you for advice.

Can't boot from the M$ Win95 CD regardless

Sounds like a bad or dirty CD drive (or CD)

Booting from the Win98 bootdisk (or a Win95 floppy with CD-ROM support), do you get the same message when attempting to read other data CDs?

We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true

Yes, hijacking threads can get a bit messy for everyone. Why don't you start a new thread and get individual attention to your own specific problem?
