I'm trying to get the bios to ask for a password to boot the computer. I set a bios password and supervisor password, however, these do not seem to have anything to do with booting the computer. I boot the computer and it will not ask for these passwords unless I try to access to bios. I just want to set a password to keep unauthorized users from booting the computer. How does one do this?
Thanks

Hi That's all the BIOS PASSWORD is for. Search for a program on the internet to do what you want.

Good Luck, Jim

Search Google for a motherboard manual. If you are lucky enough to find one it should give you the procedure. A BIOS password should do what you want.

If you found the proper entries for the passwords and they didn't work you may not have saved before exiting the BIOS.

One other thought, if this is a laptop computer be very careful about passwords. There are HD passwords that if lost will cause you untold problems.

I think if your bios doesn't have an option for a boot password then you're out of luck. Most older motherboards didn't have it.

You could set a Windows password if using Win2000 or XP.

Is this a laptop? If so, heed the advice. You can lock yourself out of that baby forever!!!
